Crowds in Old Delhi were thrown into chaos today after an explosion near the historic Red Fort left at least eight people dead and several more injured. The incident took place on a narrow road close to a metro station, where a car suddenly burst into flames, according to the city police.

Footage from nearby residents showed multiple vehicles engulfed in fire, smoke rising above tightly packed buildings, and people rushing to safety. Fire teams reached the location and brought the blaze under control after several vehicles and auto-rickshaws caught fire.

“We heard a loud blast. The entire area shook,” a resident told NDTV, describing moments of panic as people tried to understand what had happened.

Authorities are still examining the scene to determine what triggered the explosion. Police at the site continued to push back crowds gathering near the cordoned-off area.

The Red Fort, a significant historic landmark that draws visitors year-round, stands only a short distance from the blast site, raising widespread alarm across the capital.
